2013 AFCON final goal hero, Sunday Mba of Nigeria has boasted that the Super Eagles of Nigeria will over run the Harambe stars of Kenya, in this weekend 2014 world cup qualifier at the UJ Esuene stadium in Calabar.
In this interview with Cafonline.com the Rangers of Enugu attacking midfielder speaks on the chances of the Super Eagles in this weekend's game.
After close to six weeks of rest following your AFCON feat, you are back in camp. What is the Spirit like?
MBA: Well, the spirit is very high as you can see. We are all rearing to go. We have put the Nations cup success behind us. Its a new task now, the world cup qualifier and its busy as usual.
As African Champions does it put the players under pressure going into this weekend's game?
MBA: Not at all. Its actually a moral booster for us. Because we will be confident going into the game but not over confident because we know there are no minnows anymore in Africa football.
How do you rate the Kenyans?
MBA: We actually respect them. They have some excellent players and they just appointed a new coach, so I do expect a difficult game from them but we are capable of containing any threat they would pose.
Nigeria go into this game without some notable names i.e Emmanuel Emenike, Joseph Yobo, Efe Ambrose?
MBA: That's football for you. About six players from the team that won the Nations cup would not be available for selection. There is no doubt we will miss them but again that is why we are a team. When one person is out the other takes charge. So I believe the boys presently selected for the game will deliver on Saturday.
Coach Stephen Keshi has invited some Fresh legs, what do you think?
MBA: Well, he is the coach and he knows the right players to prosecute a particular game. Like they normally say, no two games are the same, so the coach knows the players that best fits his approach for the game.
What do you know about the Harambe stars?
MBA: I know they are a good side. They have players that can change a game and that we have a better head to head records against them. I don't really know much about them but I know that they would be in Calabar to fight and we are battle ready.
Any personal target for you in this game?
MBA: No! Not at all. I just want us to win and remain on top of the group.
Any Predictions?
MBA: Am not good at it but I know we will win. Am very confident about that.
